pity party

n., pejorative
A term used by rude and insensitive people and victim blamers and verbal abusers, to inform others that “I find your so-called ‘problems’ annoying.”

Antonyms:

supportiveness, empathy, sympathy.
maturity. professionalism.
treating people with respect, allowing people their dignity.

toxic positivity; silencing victims for not being “positive” enough.

conditional love; empathy deficiency; empathy disorders.

Beware of abusive people who criticize you for having emotions. Such people may use one or more of these words. These words usually travel in packs; Google the phrase “pity party” and you’ll usually find all of these abuser keywords flocking together:

  • “a pity party”
  • “self-pity”
  • “Aw, poor poor you!”
  • “feeling sorry for yourself”
  • “pouting”
  • “wallowing”
  • “throwing a tantrum”, “pitching a hissy fit”
  • “trying to get attention”
  • “demanding to be coddled”
  • “taking things too seriously”
  • “whining”
