An excuse made during relationship breakups, esp. by the person initiating the breakup. A lie.

Breaker-uppers just love to say “I’m not looking for a relationship right now.” Oh please! You’ve seen these dating-reality-game shows, where young beautiful people confide to the hidden camera how they expect instant intimacy. Right now. You can safely assume that anyone who gives you the old “I’m not looking for a relationship” would burst into flames if hooked up to a lie detector!
