  • An ambiguous compliment, which is a weak or vague compliment possibly intended to hide disapproval.
  • Complement, meaning “that part which completes the whole”. Notice the extra ‘e’. The yin is the complement to the yang.
  • Mixed messages, which are compliments followed by the word “but” and a criticism. These are criticisms in disguise. No compliment is intended.
